Welcome Announced 2020-21 Scholarship Winners
Welcome Federal Credit Union announced the winners of its community colleges scholarship program. Two winning students, Nancy Feldman and Taunee Wagner, were each bestowed $2,000 – $1,000 for 2020 and $1,000 for 2021.
Backed by the credit union, the recipients are chosen by the respective colleges, Pitt Community College and Wake Technical Community College. Each scholarship had some outstanding submissions.
“We are incredibly proud to support these students in their pursuit of their education and careers,” said Welcome CEO Stacey Mills.
Feldman is seeking to earn her associate degree in applied science. Her goal is to become a registered diagnostic medical sonographer in one of eastern North Carolina’s health care systems.
“Support from entities that place importance on stewarding pursuits such as mine, can make a huge, if not, defining difference,” Feldman said. “WFCU’s award has really buoyed my academic/career efforts, and I look forward to paying it forward.”
Pitt Community College President said support made by Welcome Credit Union and others help eliminate the barriers to higher education.
“You’re making a profound impact on people’s lives and creating a legacy for future generations to emulate,” said Dr. Lawrence L. Rouse in a statement.
Meanwhile, Wagner is enrolled at Wake Tech in pursuit of completing her associate degree. She then plans to transfer to a local university to pursue a bachelor’s degree in accounting, where she aims to put her education to work in helping small businesses and nonprofit organizations give back to their communities.
“I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to take classes at Wake Technical Community College with the aid of Welcome Federal Credit Union,” Wagner said. “Their grant gave me the opportunity to register for classes that I otherwise would have needed to postpone. Their support allowed me to accelerate my planned schedule for graduation and I could not be more appreciative.”
